  1. Monterrey industries established Monterrey is a major industrial center among cities in Mexico. The city was ranked the 2 to do business in Mexico and in 2005 and currently is ranked as the third best by the América Economía magazine. Most of the major companies in Mexico, which are also large companies in the world, are headquartered in Monterrey.
    As a result of its strong steel industry, it is often called "the Pittsburgh of Mexico". The city has prominent positions in sectors such as steel, cement, glass, auto parts, and beer.
    The industrialization process was accelerated in the mid 19th Century by the Compañia Fundidora de Fierro y Acero Monterrey a steel processing company. Nowadays Monterrey is home of transnational conglomerates such as Cemex (world's third largest cement company), FEMSA (Coca‐Cola Latin America), Alfa (petrochemicals, food, telecommunications and auto parts), Axtel (telecommunications), Vitro (glass), Selther (leading mattress and rest systems firm in Latin America), Gruma (food), and Banorte (financial services).

  2. - During the last several years, the government has taken on the task of supporting companies already established in Nuevo Leon to attract new companies in this sector.
  3. - Thanks to the joint effort between government, private companies and academia, Nuevo Leon has now a more consolidated aerospace industrial cluster.

  2. - This cluster accounts for 8.4% of the total GDP of the automotive industry in Mexico, equivalent to 1,280 billion USD.
  3. - Home to 20% of the autopart industries, throughout the nation, which makes it the second state with the greatest number of companies in the competitive automotive cluster.
  4. - The automotive cluster in the area is made up of truck manufacturers and 195 autopart industries, 50 of which are foreign companies and 145 are national.

 

  1. - Currently Mexico is the main supplier for the household-electric industry in the US, Canada and Central America.
  2. - This cluster is a network integrated by more than 100 qualified companies that have allowed companies like Whirlpool, Friedrich, Carrier, York, Phillips, LG Electronics and Mabe, among others, to establish their operations in Monterrey.
  3. - The household –electric productive chain of the sector is fortified, supported and integrated through the most consolidated industries of Nuevo Leon, like metal mechanics, the electrical industry, electronics, plastic, etc.

 

  1. The IT sector in Monterrey, Mexico has been growing at a steady pace over the past years and there is a constant investment in the software development sector in the region.
  2. - There are currently about 240 companies working in software development.
  3. - Although large worldwide recognized names have a presence in the area, the majority of the companies in the region are smaller in size and in significance.
  4. - Size classification differs from the United States and for the IT industry in Mexico large is defined as having more than 101 employees, medium is defined as having 51-100 employees, small is defined as having 11-50 employees, and micro is defined as having 1-10 employees.
